Dr Buffum is a Clinical Professor, University of California, San Francisco, School of Nursing and WOC Nurse Researcher, VA Medical Center, San Francisco
She has extensive clinical and research experience, having worked in clinical nursing for 45 years in roles including staff nurse, clinical nurse specialist, faculty member and nurse researcher. Her focus about pain in persons with dementia has involved funded research since 1994.
She has presented to multidisciplinary audiences locally, nationally, and internationally about pain assessment and management in patients with dementia. Also, while assisting nurses in conducting and publishing research about varying topics, she continues to participate in research about the behavioral management of auditory hallucinations in patients with schizophrenia. Marti’s extensive publications include the issue of pain assessment and management of patients with dementia.
