A series of 4 sessions discussing the dangers of administering or managing the administration, of drugs such as risperidone, to patients or residents with a dementia syndrome.
Overall Objective:
There is an objective for each session, but the participant should be able to discuss the issue of using antipsychotic drugs in clients with a dementia syndrome vs person centred non-pharmacological interventions for behaviours.
Session 1
Legal, professional and documentation errors often made by nurses in relation to clients with dementia syndromes and so called behaviours.
Session 2
The old and the new antipsychotics, which are safest; what they all do; required nursing actions when administering antipsychotics and .not enough time’ is not an option!
Session 3
Nursing requirements and funding issues; person centred care and non-pharmacological interventions can work for residents.
