The aim

To provide registered nurses with additional evidence based and practical strategies to reduce dementia related behaviours and falls, while supporting staff but minimising personal and organisational risks.

Prue was the proponent and clinician for research funded by the Commonwealth Government.

Her speciality is guiding RACF staff to deliver care that is reflective of best practice, aligned with standards of the NMBA & the strengthened Aged Care Standards.

09.00-09.30 Why admission matters

09.30–10.30 Neurocognitive disorders, the facts.

  • How to assess across the 6 cognitive domains used in dementia diagnosis.
  • (DSM 5 TR 2022) Alzheimer’s, Lewy body, vascular and frontotemporal dementias. s

10.45–12.15 Four (4) dementia symptom clusters

  • Government funded research on effective non-pharmacological strategies to reduce BPSD, falls and SIRS.
  • Personalising care for the symptom clusters of cognitive, conative, affective losses, BPSD
  • Documentation to evidence contemporary nursing practice & legislation requirements.

12.15-13.15 Lunch break

13.15-16.00 Documenting behaviour support plans

Step by step, we write personalised, supportive plans for the behavioural symptoms as identified by the attendees, introducing effective, researched strategies, inclusive of possible cross cultural issues.

Maximum attendees – 18 registered nurses
