Session 2 – Non-opioids and weak opioids in chronic pain
At the completion of this session the nurse should be able to discuss the effective use and or issues of simple analgesic, weak opioids and morphine in the management if chronic pain.
NOTE:

- over view of simple analgesics; mechanism of action; their role in chronic pain and adverse effects
- current evidence on the use of opiates in chronic pain; how they work or not, and the issues
- the role of weak opioids in chronic pain; how they work or not and the issues
- the equivalence of weak opioids to morphine
